Sidney Spillett, 93, died on Friday at St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was a life resident of the West End of Syracuse and was predeceased by his parents, Ethelbert and Beatrice Appleyard Spillett. He had retired from Solvay Process (Allied Chemical) and was in the 40-Year Club. He enjoyed playing handball and was a member of the YMCA since 1937. He was also a member of the Liverpool Syracuse Masonic Lodge No. 501 for over 50 years.

During World War II, Sidney served with the 597th Bomb Squadron in England as an airplane crew chief and received the Bronze Star. Sidney had a lifetime commitment to the Boy Scouts of America, Hiawatha Council. He started as a Boy Scout, was a leader and spent his later years doing handyman work at Camp Woodland.

He is survived by his sister, Bernice Hooge of Syracuse; nephews, Jon and Carl Hooge of Syracuse; niece, Dawn (James) Downey of Cicero; and several great-nieces and great- nephews. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 1217 N. Salina St.
